After living in Cebu City we decided to move to Dumaguete on the idyllic island of Negros because neither of us needed the big city living.
Five years ago this was all farmland but the city encroaches. Really we are only about 5.5 km from the city centre.
Dumaguete is known as the bike capital of the philippines -most of the transport within the city is by "pedicab" - nothing to do with pedals. So we decided to get our own.
Problem is neither of us know when to stop - so we got 5 of them - and we are planning for #6 - so all the drivers can have one day off a week.
As owners we decided to call a union meeting for our drivers. Unions are a difficult subject in the Philippines but then Dave is Australian. You can take the boy out of Australia but you can't take Australia out of the boy! My father is a farmer and so we did a deal and brought him a Carabao.
Carabaos are small water buffalo and are the agricultural power engines of the Philippines |
